How Superannuation Works in Australia
Superannuation is Australia's compulsory retirement savings system. Employers are required to contribute a percentage of your ordinary time earnings (the Superannuation Guarantee, or SG) directly into your super fund.
SG Rate Schedule
The SG rate is 11.5% for 2024–25 and will increase to 12% from 1 July 2025, where it will be maintained indefinitely.
Voluntary Contributions
You can boost your super by making salary-sacrifice (concessional) contributions taxed at 15%, or after-tax (non-concessional) contributions. Both are powerful tools for growing your retirement nest egg.
