Australian Income Tax — 2025–26

In Australia, income tax is calculated on a progressive (tiered) basis. The more you earn, the higher your marginal rate — but only the income in each bracket is taxed at that rate.

Medicare Levy

Most residents pay a 2% Medicare levy on top of their income tax. Low-income earners below the threshold of $26,000 are exempt, and there is a phase-in range between $26,000 and $32,500.

Low Income Tax Offset (LITO)

The LITO reduces the tax payable by residents earning below $66,667. The maximum offset is $700 for those earning up to $37,500, and it phases out gradually above that.
